UNP Member of Parliament Sajith Premadasa, during a live audio broadcast on Daily Mirror Online today, said that the modernization process of the UNP should be an open, transparent and democratic process and not a process whereby a single voice or single opinion dominates the whole agenda.

“You have the Deputy leader’s position, the national organizers position, various assistant secretaries and several other positions and responsibilities attached to the party constitution. So the modernization process should be an open, transparent and democratic process and not a process whereby a single voice or single opinion dominates the whole agenda which is why we are going by a process which includes all the pressure groups and organizations in the party,” the UNP MP said.

Responding to a question from a caller on the live program who asked if he would take up the leadership role of the UNP, Mr. Premadasa said that being in positions is not a pre-requisite to contribute to the progression of the UNP or bring peace and prosperity to the country.

“I shall do my utmost to ensure that our party is victorious and that our party is well equipped to face all future political challenges and I hope whatever positions that I attain that process is a process of democracy rather than a process of selection,” the UNP MP said during the interview.
