The United National Party (UNP) yesterday urged the government to sack Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabaral and Treasury Secretary P. B. Jayasundera over allegations that they were responsible for the ‘fraudulent deal’ between the EPF and The Finance Company.

UNP parliamentarian and Public Accounts Committee Member R. Yogarajan told a news conference the government should take action against Mr. Cabraal and Mr. Jayasundere as they had approved this deal which affected thousands of EPF contributors.

He said the decision to use the EPF to invest in The Finance Company had to be approved by both Mr. Cabral and Dr. Jayasundara as prominent members of the Central Bank Monetary Board which gives the final approval for the investments made by the EPF.

Mr. Yogarajan said the PAC had decided to question Mr. Cabraal and Mr. Jayasundere regarding this deal. He said the reports that the PAC had accepted the explanation given by EPF officials was totally false.

Mr. Yogarajan said all those responsible would be summoned by the PAC. He said labour ministry officials would also be summoned.
The EPF purchased shares in the loss making The Finance Company at Rs.50 a share when the actual price of a share was Rs.30.(Yohan Perera )
