At least 12 students of the Sabaragamuwa University were injured when an unidentified gang hurled petrol bombs at the hut where they were protesting last night.

It was reported that the students who were protesting at Pabahinna junction on the Badulla-Colombo Road had been attacked by a group of masked men armed with clubs and swords.

About 12 students who were injured were admitted to the Pabahinna hospital and six of them were transferred to the Balangoda Base Hospital.

The Sabaragamuwa University was closed indefinitely last Sunday (05) after several female students had forced their way into the men’s hostel following an altercation over a hostel issue.(Text & pix by Prince Ratnayake)
