SAARC agrees to fight terror

SAARC Interior Ministers meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan today approved the resolutions for joint efforts against terrorism and smuggling, Pakistan’s GEO TV reported.

Home ministers from SAARC nations today also discussed ways to strengthen police cooperation and other means to combat terrorism that has afflicted the region.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik presided over the meeting of Saarc Interior Ministers today where Sri Lanka is represented by Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake.

Addressing the inaugural session, Malik presented Pakistan’s policy for regional cooperation and highlighted the objectives of the conference.

Indian Home Minister P Chidambaram while addressing the conference said terrorism is affecting regional cooperation and economic growth of the region and stressed adaptation of all anti-terror conventions of Saarc and international convention.

He said Saarc countries should exchange useful information to curb terrorism. Saarc Interior Ministers also passed resolutions against terrorism, human trafficking and money laundering, GEO TV reported.
