Russians arrested over major ATM card scam

Five Russian nationals arrested by the CID on suspicion over a major ATM card racket involving millions of rupees, were ordered to be remanded till November 30.

The suspects who were arrested in Wellawatte had in their possession 250 fake credit cards, 6 laptops, 2 encoders, Rs. 2.5 million and 5000 Euros in cash.

The Russians had carried out the scam with partners in Cambodia and Vietnam.

The police said that the suspects had more than 25,000 U.S. dollars in their possession withdrawn from ATM machines in Sri Lanka.
