Rs.6.6 million robbed from ATM machine in Kantale

A group of thieves took away cash worth Rs.6.6 million by breaking the ATM machine belonging to a state bank branch in the Kantale town. 
 
The incident is believed to have taken place last night at the ATM machine situated in the Kantale town. They had come in a vehicle and had broken the cash box of the ATM machine. 
 
The police had been informed this morning by the bank authorities about the robbery after they discovered the damage and the loss. 
 
Police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said that the suspects have not beeen identified yet but it is believed that they are men of the same area. He said that the incident had taken place between 8.00pm on last night and 8.00 am today. 
 
The police did not specifically comment about the video records at the ATM machine. Two teams have been deployed by the Kantale police to the area to arrest the suspects. 
 
Police stations in the Kantale police division have also being alerted about the suspects, SP Rohana said. (Supun Dias)
