Rs.85m. to be confiscated from drug dealers

Rs. 85 million belonging to two drug dealers is to be confiscated, following investigations after the arrest of a Liberian national possessing 30 kilogrammes of heroin, police said.

Following information obtained from the arrested Liberian two more people were arrested with 10 kilogrammes of heroin in the Hikkaduwa area.

The two main suspects were identified as Wasantha Mendis from Moratuwa and Vidura Soyza from Ratgama who are reported to have gone abroad.

After several investigations the Police Narcotics Bureau found several bank accounts with Rs. 40 million lying in their favour in addition to diamonds and gems worth Rs. 15 million recovered from lockers belonging to a suspect.

A woman and another person were also taken into custody for managing and maintaining of the accounts.

Meanwhile, Rs. 30 million lying in favour of the other suspect’s accounts was also recovered and a person was taken into custody for managing and maintaining the accounts.

Police are conducting further investigations over property belonging to the suspects. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
