Rs.10 mn worth sandalwood oil nabbed at BIA

Sandalwood oil valued at more than Rs. 10 million destined to France was nabbed by the Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) last night.

The 25 kg oil consignment, in three aluminium cylinders had been declared as cinnamon oil, Customs Spokesman G.A. Leslie Gamini said.

“The stock of oil was to be illegally exported through a courier company in Colombo,” he said.

The export of sandalwood and products is prohibited under the provisions of the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance and the Forest Ordinance.
