Rookantha,Chandraleka assault case:10 PSD officers released

Ten former Presidential Security Division (PSD) Officers, who were found guilty of assaulting songsters Rookantha Gunathilake and Chandraleka Perera, were released under the Presidential Pardon today, Prison Department official said. 

The ten officers had stormed into the house of the songsters in Mattegoda in 2000 January and had assaulted them. A court case was begun in 2003 on the case. 
Panadura High Court Judge Kusala Sarojani Weerawardana ordered a four and half year imprisonment to the  PSD officers last year along with Rs.21, 000 as a fine and compensation of Rs.200, 000 from each.

However, songster Rookantha Gunathilake said after the court order that he was not against to release them. (DS)
