The main opposition UNP today urged the government to reveal the outcome of the recent meeting between External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris and the Indian Premier.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a news conference in Colombo that the government kept mum on the recent discussions held in India and urged the government to inform Parliament and the country about the matters discussed at the meeting.

“Some State Media had reported that the discussion was held regarding the implementation of the 13th Amendment and economic and social development. But the government has not made an official statement about the meeting as yet.”

Mr. Attanayake said it was learnt they had discussed the implementation of the 13 Amendment and the government had requested more time saying there were various arguments regarding the matter among the government allies and more time was needed to arrive at a compromise. (Ajith Siriwardana)
