Video: Red notice on LTTE arms smuggler in Canada

A red notice was issued on a prominent LTTE weapons smuggler who is currently residing in Canada.

The suspect identified as Kanakarajah Ravi Shankar was sentenced to 30 years rigorous imprisonment in absentia by the Vavuniya High Court.

Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said after joining the LTTE in 1992 he had gone to North Korea to arrange a weapons shipment consisting of missiles and ammunition in 1996 and was involved in smuggling operations in 1997 and 1998.

“The LTTE operative who was a resident of Jaffna had fled the country in 2004,” SSP Rohana said and added that 30 such LTTE operatives wanted by the Sri Lankan Government were living abroad.

The Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) has in its custody 110 suspected LTTE activists of whom 51 were arrested after the ‘Gobi’ incident in March this year. (SD & DS)
