Recalling Buhne hasty

The Sri Lankan government termed as “hasty” the move by UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon to recall the UN Country representative Neil Buhne to New York for consultations over the protest outside the UN country office.

External Affairs Minister G.L Peiris made this observation while speaking in Parliament today on the latest developments resulting from the protest being staged outside the UN Colombo office by Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

Meanwhile speaking at a separate media briefing today Defence Ministry official Lakshman Hulugalle blamed General Sarath Fonseka over the move by the UN Chief to appoint a three member panel on Sri Lanka.

Hulugalle said Fonseka’s “white flag” story led to the UN action despite the government managing to defeat a move at the UN Human Rights Council last year to bring a resolution against Sri Lanka. (KB, YP & SJ)
