Elaborating on what would take place when common candidate Maithripala Sirisena wins the presidential elections, UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera said Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe would be appointed as the Prime Minister but not with executive powers.

Mr. Samaraweera told a media briefing today that a national government would be formed till constitutional changes are made within 100 days while a general election would be held after the term of the present Parliament ends in April 2016.

He suggested that it was a better move to form a national government for at least two years even after the general elections.

Meanwhile he charged that there was a sinister move to temporarily halt SMS services during the final week of the presidential elections.

Mr. Samaraweera alleged that talks were already underway regarding this matter among the relevant authorities and mobile phone service companies.

He also charged that some hotels which undertook bookings to host the signing of the MoU of the common opposition had cancelled them stating there were other bookings.

He therefore said the MOU would be signed even on the road next Monday. (Yohan Perera and Lahiru Pothmulla)
