Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had ordered the Wildlife Director General H. D Ratnayake to carry out an investigation on the recent killing of a leopardess at the Yala National Park after being knocked down by a vehicle.

A Spokesman for the Prime Minister told the Daily Mirror that the Premier had specifically asked the Director General Wildlife as to how the vehicle went on high speed inside the park.

“He also wants to determine the speed at which the vehicle was travelling at the time it hit the animal,” he said.

It is believed that the animal had been killed on August 30 and carcass was recovered early next morning.(Yohan Perera)
