Ranil denies claim

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has stated that he did not agree to the proposed 18th Amendment to the constitution at any time during bi partisan talks with President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Wickremesinghe was referring to a statement made by President Rajapaksa that the UNP did not oppose the !8th Amendment to the constitution. 

Addressing a joint meeting of several opposition political parties and organizations against the proposed constitution amendments at Jayewardene Center, Wickremesinghe said he and the UNP delegation had clearly informed President Rajapaksa that his party is against any move to retain the executive presidency during talks.
