Representatives of 10 fishing panchayats in Karaikal met Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday to urge him to take immediate steps for the release of the 29 Karaikal fishermen who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy.

On their arrival, the Chief Minister assured them that he had written to the Prime Minister. He also told them that he would meet the Prime Minister to ensure a permanent solution to the problem.

Meanwhile, the members of the National Fishworkers Forum have strongly opposed the alleged attack on Karaikal fishermen by the Indian Coast Guard.

According to the General Secretary of the NFF M. Ilango, it will be writing to the National Human Rights Commission. (The Hindu)
