The Meteorological Department today said that the prevalent rainy weather triggered by inter-monsoon conditions will continue until mid-May.

Duty Meteorologist Gayana Hendawitharana stated that evening thunder showers will continue to affect almost all parts of the country while morning showers could be expected in the Western and Southern provinces during the next few days due to a low level disturbance. “Northern and Eastern parts of the country are likely to expect heavy rains during these days,” she added.

Meanwhile the Irrigation Department stated that sluice gates of ten tanks and reservoirs had to be opened today as a result of the heavy rains. Yesterday, sluice gates of some 15 tanks and reservoirs had to be opened to release the excess water flowing in as a result of the rains. (Daily Mirror online)
