Rain ends day three

Rain cut short play on the third day of the second test in Pallekele, Kandy today, with Australia 237 runs ahead with three wickets in hand.

Continuing from where they left off yesterday, Michael Hussey and Shaun Marsh sustained their pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers, both batsmen scoring centuries early in the day, putting on a partnership of 258 runs before part-time bowler Thilan Samaraweera had Hussey caught for 142. He was soon followed by Marsh who was out for 141.

A double wicket maiden from Suraj Randiv gave Sri Lanka hope of bowling out the visitors, before rain ended play.
