Railway trade unions called off their strike after discussions with Transport Minister Kumara Welgama and Secretary Dhammika Perera this afternoon.

A union spokesman said the union alliance had informed the government that if its demands were not met in two weeks time they would resort to a further trade union action.

The Railways Professional Trade Union Alliance (RPTUA) launched a 48-hour railway strike from midnight on Sunday over salary anomalies.
