JVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today the government had created an atmosphere where the Tamils had to seek the assistance of the West or India if they were to obtain something from the government.

“During the last four years, Tamils had begun to believe they should seek the assistance of the West or India to win their demands. When we suggested that the police service should be removed from the Defence Ministry and military presence in the North should be limited, the government paid no heed but it was done with the news of Ms. Navi Pillay’s arrival. People were led to believe that the provincial Council Election in the North is also held due to pressure from India. So the people have begun to believe that the government pays no heed to their demands but to the needs of India or the west and to seek their assistance to win their rights.

Mr. Dissanayake said the TNA was attempting to aggravate the National issue which was heading to a more complex situation.

“The government had a good opportunity to bring a lasting solution to the National issue but it did not take necessary measures in this regard after the war. The government did not pay attention to the issue of the displaced people. The government continued the semi-military administration instead of establishing peace and democracy. Instead of solving the land issue of the people, the government located people from Hambantota and Anuradhapura in those areas aggravating the issue. The issue of disappearances and the arrested has also not been solved. The government did not act with national responsibility. Instead of restoring law and order, the government has created racism to gain political mileage.” he said.

He said it was the Rajapaksa regime that had created an atmosphere conducive for the TNA to present a racist manifesto.

“Due to the actions of the government during the last four years the Tamils have lost faith in the government and made to believe that they should establish their own government. This has led to the Tamil racist political campaign to raise its head,” he added. (Ajith Siriwardana)
