The Private Bus Owners Association (PBOA) have threatened legal action and a strike if the National Transport Commission (NTC) does not adhere to a Supreme Court ruling of implementing bus time tables.

The PBOA said that they would not take any action this month as they did not want to cause any problems to students who were sitting for their examinations.

PBOA President, Gemunu Wijeratne said that the NTC had agreed to the Supreme Court ruling but they have not made any time tables as yet. “We are inconvenienced due to this and hope to solve it soon,” he said.

Mr. Wijeratne revealed that there was a move by the Western Province Transport Minister to renew route permits that expired five years ago. “We are against this as the government stands a chance to loose a big income over this. It is the government that should ensure ways to make an income, we shouldn’t be the ones to point it out to them,” he stated.
