Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe called for the support of the masses to free former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka through a public petition organized by the UNP that will begin on Human Rights Day on December 10 and which will be handed over to the United Nations General Assembly.

“Our country has signed the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which is a part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,” he said while addressing the media today.

Under these agreements the government cannot take action against Sarath Fonseka though they have done so. We will contest this with the support of the people,” Wickremesinghe said. (Olindhi Jayasundere )
