A proposal for shifting a section of Sri Lankan Refugees at Bhavani Sagar camp to another location in the area has been made to the district administration by the Commissioner of Rehabilitation P. Anand.

After listening to the grievances of the inmates earlier this week, Mr. Anand said their need for sufficient water supply to toilets and proper garbage disposal would be fulfilled in due course.

There are 3,532 members in the camp belonging to 1,057 families.

They are being provided with financial assistance on the basis of Rs. 1,000 for an elder, Rs. 750 for a youth, and Rs. 400 for a child below 12 years of age.

Every family is given 20 kg free rice, two kilograms of sugar, five litres of kerosene, one litre of palm oil and other provisions that every BPL family is entitled to through the public distribution system.

Since the refugee strength at the camp has exceeded, 1,000 members have to be shifted to another location, Mr. Anand said, advising Revenue Department offcials who accompanied him to identify suitable location in the area. (The Hindu)
