A suspect has been remanded and four others taken into custody after a scam conducted through marriage proposal advertisements in local papers came to light, the Police Fraud Bureau told Daily Mirror online. Further investigations are being carried out.

The scam had first come to light after a lady from Akurana, a government servant, who had advertised for a partner in the marriage proposal section of a paper, was scammed by the group after they befriended her. She had later lodged a complaint with the police.
