The CID is probing an incident where a group of police officers had been deceived by a person who had posed as an ASP attached to the police headquarters by sending them a false police message.

The investigations were initiated on a complaint by IGP N.K. Illangakoon and the CID filed a fact report before Colombo Fort Magistrate.

Filing the fact report in Court, the CID said a person posing off as an ASP attached to the police headquarters had sent a false police message to the Kataragama police OIC, requesting him to raise money for a surgery of a son of a woman Inspector attached to the police headquarters.

Making a statement to the CID, the Kataragama OIC had told that he took measures to raise money deploying several police officers after receiving a written request from the concerned person.   The OIC had further said he was able to collect Rs.110,000 from donors in the area and deposited it in a private bank account upon the request made by the concerned person.

The CID informed Court that a certain person had carried out this fraud and further investigations are being conducted into the incident. Having considered the submissions Magistrate Ms. Lanka Jayaratne ordered that an investigation report regarding the matter be submitted in Court on the next hearing date, September 28.
