The Police have begun investigations over the failure by nightclubs to check the identification of teenagers who visit these places despite being underage which is a violation of the existing laws.

An official from the Police Women and Children’s Bureau told Daily Mirror online that several complaints have been received of underage teenagers allowed entry into nightclubs and then being able to purchase alcohol over the counter without their identifications being checked.

The official added that drugs were also freely circulated in the nightclubs which resulted to an increase in drug usage amongst the teenagers.

“We have launched an investigation into this matter and will very soon conduct raids if this continues,” the official said.

When contacted, the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said that teenagers visiting nightclubs was a cause for concern amongst the authorities especially after the teenagers freely purchased drugs and alcohol.

“This has become an issue because the teenagers go to these nightclubs and buy drugs. This comes under the matter of the police who are looking into it,” an NCPA officer said. (Daily Mirror online)
