The Foreign Employment Bureau is to begin investigations into newspaper advertisements promoting employment for students going overseas for academic purposes, Bureau official L.K Ruhunuge told Daily Mirror online.
According to the Bureau, students sent overseas via agencies for educational purposes cannot be offered employment unless such agencies are registered with the Foreign Employment Bureau and have the required clearance.
Ruhunuge said that as of late several newspaper advertisements have been published offering employment for students in countries like the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Singapore which is illegal under the Foreign Employment act.
The Foreign Employment Bureau says educational institutions cannot offer overseas jobs to students unless they are registered with the Foreign Employment Bureau. (Daily Mirror online)
