Private tuition to be regulated

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane said that he intends to regulate private tuition classes under the proposed reforms to the entire education sector.

Mr. Gunwardane, who also started his career as a private tutor a few decades ago, told Daily Mirror that there are unqualified persons conducting tuition classes for school children as their means of income.

“According to universally accepted principles, anybody has the right to impart his or her knowledge to others. Also, anyone has the right to obtain knowledge from others according to his or her freewill. These are human rights. Yet, education is something that matters to the future of our children. Therefore, I intend to regulate the system barring such unqualified persons from conducting classes,” he said.
