The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association today threatened to launch a countrywide strike from midnight tomorrow (14), if the government did not grant the fuel subsidy in the aftermath of the recent fuel hike.

Addressing the media, the association’s President Gemunu Wijeratne said the unanimous decision to launch such an action was taken after a meeting.

“Due to the recent fuel price hike the association is incurring a loss running into several million rupees. We are resorting to this action because we cannot bear the brunt anymore,” he said adding that the authorities had failed to give a subsidy despite several requests.
