A prisoner in Batticaloa has been given special permission to sit for the Advanced Level (A/L) examinations which will commence tomorrow, after earlier being refused permission by the Court to sit for the exam in Jaffna, prisons officials told Daily Mirror online.

The student was given permission to sit for the examination in Batticaloa on the intervention of the authorities who had discussed the matter over the weekend, prison sources told Daily Mirror online.

The youth, A. Suhirthan, a resident of Jaffna, had got admission to sit for the Advanced Level (A/L) examination by the Examinations Department but was refused permission to sit for the exam in Jaffna by the Akaraitpattu judge as he was detained in Batticaloa under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

When contacted by Daily Mirror online, Commissioner General of Prisons Major General V.R. De Silva confirmed that the student, who was arrested in April last year and had applied to sit for the examination this year, will now sit for the exam in Batticaloa. He added that special arrangements have been made for this purpose.. (Daily Mirror online)
