Prasanna in Australia: unable to attend Kandy meeting

The Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga had suddenly left for Australia on Wednesday night.

Ranatunga had openly said earlier that he would attend the meeting to be held today in Kandy, demanding that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa be nominated as the prime ministerial candidate.

Ranatunga had stated on his Facebook page that if he could have got the Australian tour cancelled he would definitely have attended the meeting in Kandy.

Clarifying his position, he had said, “My stand in promoting former president Mahinda Rajapaksa as premier has not changed, I arrived in Australia as I could not cancel the tour this time as this tour had been cancelled twice earlier. Whatever restrictions are placed on me I will attend future meetings” (Ajantha Kumara Agalakada)
