Poster ban revoked

The Elections Department today revoked its earlier decision to lift the ban on the use of posters by political party and independent candidates, and, instead, ordered the police to remove all posters, cut outs and banners related to the election.

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake, a week ago, informed at a meeting of the party leaders that he decided to remove the ban on the use of posters as otherwise candidates had no means to communicate their preferential numbers and messages to voters. (Kelum Bandara)
