Postal voting cards to be issued on Sept 20

Polling cards for postal voting to be held on September 29 and 30, for theOctober 8 mini-local government polls, will be issued on the 20th of thismonth, Deputy Elections Commissioner W.P Sumanasiri said.

Mr. Sumanasiri said the Elections Secretariat had made arrangements for postal voting at government offices in the local government bodies where elections are held and average 10 -12 voters are expected at each polling station.

Meanwhile, the main elections monitoring NGO, PAFFREL said some 700 election observers have been deployed to monitor postal voting.

“We keep watch on postal voting centres at CTB depots, police stations, armed  forces, education offices and local government body offices,” Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said.

Elections are to be held to elect members to 17 Municipal Councils, five Pradeshiya Sabhas and one Urban Council on October 8. (SAJ)
