The United Postal Trade Union’s Front commenced an indefinite strike from 4 pm today over the government’s alleged silence towards the unresolved issues of the Postal employees and the Department with regard to the recruitment procedure.

Union’s Convener Chinthaka Bandara told Daily Mirror that over 23,000 employees attached to some 23 unions have joined the trade union action.

Postal employees at 653 island-wide post offices, 3,410 sub-post offices and 100 control offices including all staff from Central Mail Exchange (CME) joined the indefinite strike. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)
