The Colombo Crimes Division of the Police had begun an investigation over the incident during which the son of Minister Mervyn Silva and gang of six had allegedly assaulted foreign couple at a nightclub in Colombo on Saturday.

SSP Rohana said that Malaka Silva who was ordered to be held in remand custody over alleged assaulting, would be produced before Colombo Magistrate’s Court for an identification parade on Tuesday (4).

Malaka Silva had been admitted to a private hospital himself following the brawl at a night club in Kollupitiya on early Saturday (01) morning.

The British national had lodged a police complaint in this regard, while a companion of Malaka had also lodged a complaint with the Police stating that his friend had been assaulted by the British national at the nightclub at R.A. De Mel Mawatha in Kollupitiya.

“Mr. Silva was to be sent to prison from the hospital, where he was staying today,” the SSP Rohana said.

The CCD which conducted investigations into the incident said that the British couple had been assaulted by Malaka and his companions at the nightclub.

The 24-year-old British woman who arrived in the country on October 29 had participated in her Scottish boyfriend’s (43) birthday party held at the nightclub on that day,” SSP Rohana said.

He said that Malaka Silva was also injured during the brawl. The British couple, who sustained injuries to their head and face, would be produced before a Judicial Medical Officer (JMO).

He said that the Police had already recorded statements from the manager and other employees of the nightclub and also inspected the CCTV camera footage obtained from the nightclub. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
