Police say dog wedding was no insult

The police department expressed its regrets over yesterday’s canine marriage and said it had no intention of insultingany community or its culture by way of the purported marriage ceremony.

Cultural Affairs Minister T.B. Ekanayake said the ceremony was an insult to Sinhala values and the community’s culture as the canine wedding ceremony was done in accordance with the rituals of a traditional Sinhala wedding.

Police spokesmanBuddhikaSiriwardena said the only reason for constructing a “MagulPoruwa” and conducting a Poruwa ceremony was for the sake of taking photographs.(Supun Dias)
