Thilini Amalka, who was allegedly harassed by a man at the Wariyapola bus stand prompting her to slap him –- the video of which went viral on the internet -- was summoned to the Kurunegala Police Station yesterday to record her statement on her complaint.

Rights Now Executive Director Sudharshana Gunawardena told Daily Mirror that Thilini was summoned to Kuurunegala Senior Superintendent (SSP) office yesterday.

He said the police should have acted upon her complaint in the first place without arresting her on the complaint made by the man who harassed her.

“The Children and Women’s Bureau faxed the complaint to the Wariyapola Police but no action was taken. Now the matter has been aken up by the Kurunegala Police. This should have been handled by Wariyapola Police,” Mr. Gunawardene said.(Chathushika Wijeyesinghe)
