One man had been admitted to the hospital when the Police opened fire at a fleeing lorry at a check point at Kosgoda today, the Police said.
The Police said that they had to open fire when the lorry disregarded the orders of the Police to stop at a checkpoint.

The lorry, which was found to have been transporting cattle illegally, had been taken in to custody along with two suspects after a seven-kilometre chase. The animals were found to be subjected to cruelty and one animal was found dead.

The suspects were residents of Aluthgama and Hambantota, the Police said. Two more suspects had fled the scene and Kosgoda Police are conducting investigations.(DS)
