Police issues guidelines for Sri Pada season

The Police today introduced a special set of guidelines for devotees who go on Sri Pada pilgrimage which starts on December 16.

The police said that they expected a large number of local and foreign devotees and observers during the pilgrim season that begins with the Full Moon Poya Day of December and ends on 2014 May Full Moon Poya Day.

Alcohol has been restricted.

Police requested that pilgrims, including drivers of their vehicles, not to use liquor, to behave well and to wear appropriate attire and not to bring any musical instruments.

The Police also asked the parents and guardians to place identification tags on little children.

Police requested the devotees to use the road from Hatton, Norwood, Maskeliya via Nallathanniya when reaching the mountain and to use the road Maussakele, Norton Bridge via Hatton-Colombo road on return.

“Refrain from using waterfalls, rivers and streams identified as unsafe,” the Police said.

The Police had also introduced an emergency telephone number 051-2225063 to reach in case of an emergency. (LSP)
