Police deployed as villagers clash

The police have been deployed to Anuradhapura after two villagers clashed this afternoon. Several people were injured and houses and vehicles were also damaged during the clash between the villagers of Nochchciyagama Ranorawa and Nikathunawewa.

At least 100 policemen were deployed to bring the tense situation under control. Anuradhapura SSP Mervin Karunaratne also went to the village to bring the situation under control which erupted when a group of youth of one village were assaulted by another group from the other village.

In response a lorry had gone to the village when the youth informed the villagers about the incident. (SD)
