TMVP Leader and Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan will meet President Mahinda Rajapakse tomorrow to reach a final decision on if the party will contest alone or with the ruling UPFA at the upcoming general elections.

TMVP Spokesperson Azath Maulana speaking to Daily Mirror Online said that Mr. Chandrakanthan would also meet a government delegation this evening to discuss the matter.

“Mr. Chandrakanthan will meet the government delegation today and President Mahinda Rajapakse tomorrow. We will reach a decision after the meetings,” Mr. Maulana said.

The TMVP held a high level party meeting in Batticaloa on Saturday which was chaired by Mr. Chandrakanthan and was attended by the members of the TMVP Polit Bureau, the TMVP acting committee, and several high ranking officials.

However the party was unable to reach a decision and concluded it by deciding that it would make a decision after meeting the government this week.

However the Daily Mirror online has learnt that a majority of the TMVP members are keen on contesting the upcoming General Elections as an independent party and not in alignment with any political party.

Several senior TMVP members have also conveyed their decision to Mr. Chandrakanthan and have stated that going solo during the general election would be better for the party’s future.
