PC arrested for allegedly opening fire at Namal Uyana

A Police constable has been arrested for allegedly attempting to open fire at the Chief priest of Namal Uyana and two other Civil Defense Force personnel at the site.
 
The Police said neither the Chief priest venerable Wanawasi Rahula thera nor the civil defense force personnel have been injured although the Police constable in question had opened fire two or three times. The PC had been stationed as a guard at the Namal Uyana and Rahula thera said he hid himself when the shooting began and came out only about two hours later, to report the incident to the Police.
 
Investigations are being carried out into the incident to determine whether the said Constable was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. (Kanchana Kumara Ariyadasa)
