Party must approve Sajith’s plans: Attanayake

9 January 2012 05:30 pm

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake today said any activities with regard to the party, including the membership drive, had to be approved by the party’s advisory committee before implementation.

Mr. Attanayake was referring to the statement made by Deputy Leader, Sajith Premadasa that he was planning to recruit 100,000 new members.

However, Mr. Attanayake explained that the party’s plan was to appoint area organisers first and then reorganise the affiliated organisations of the party. He said the organisers would be assigned with a specific programme of work thereafter. This programme of work could comprise recruiting new members if it was approved by the advisory committee.

“Recruiting new members is not a bad thing, but proper procedures should be followed,” he added.

Decisions regarding future actions of the party are to be made on January 16 by the working committee. (Yohan Perera)
