The Palestine Embassy today said the Rs. 130 million donated to Palestine by the previous government was an urgent humanitarian contribution to the people of Palestine after the Israel attack on Gaza.

The statement issued by the Embassy thanked the government and the people of Sri Lanka for its humanitarian gesture.

The embassy released the statement after several newspapers reported quoting Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that the donation was for the construction of a vocational training Institute which was to be named after President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

It also said the training institute to be named Mahinda Rajapaksa Vocational Training Centre was based on a memorandum of understanding signed between the two governments.
