Pakistan FM due here

The Foreign Minister of Pakistan Hina Rabbani Khar will visit Sri Lanka from 1st to 3 rd August, 2012 at the invitation of Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister G.L. Peiris, the High Commission of Pakistan said yesterday.

During her three day visit, Ms. Khar will call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and also meet several other top leaders of Sri Lanka.
Discussions will be held between the two sides on strengthening political, defence, cultural, tourism, media, economic, business and trade relations and forging strong bonds between the two nations.

The visit is aimed at enhancing the bilateral ties between the people of the two countries which date back to the days of the Buddhist civilisation and have been marked by a shared interest in regional peace and stability.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 1948, the two countries have consistently maintained a close, cordial and mutually supportive relationship.

Hina Rabbani Khar comes from a political family and has played a pivotal role in the political arena of Pakistan.  She has held various key position including serving as Minister of State for Economic Affairs from 2005-07, Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affairs from 2008-11 and Minster of State for Foreign Affairs in 2011 before becoming the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs in July 2011.  

She has graduated from prestigious institutions like Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA.
