The Police said today that the incident, in which popular actress and MP Upeksha Swarnamali was injured and hospitalized following an alleged family squabble is in the process of being amicably resolved, as confirmed to Daily Mirror online by a senior police officer. The parties concerned are negotiating on an amicable settlement added the source.

“Her (Upeksha) husband was asked to come and make a statement to the Mirihana police station but he had not turned up as yet”, he added.
Upkesha Swarnamali was admitted to the Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital on Wednesday morning, following injuries suffered due to an alleged assault.

Hospital sources said her injuries were not serious but a decision was made to keep her in hospital for a further day to provide proper treatment since she was a Member of Parliament.

Swarnamali had lodged a complaint with the Mirihana Police and had stated that she had suffered facial injuries following the assault and had also given a statement to the police. (Supun Dias)
