Overseas job racketeers arrested

Two people who had allegedly swindled a large number of prospective overseas job seekers to the tune of some Rs. 45 million were arrested by the Colombo Crime Division.

 The CCD said the suspects who had from the Maharagama and Panadura areas had charged sums ranging from Rs.100,000 to 250,000 each from about 300 people on the pretext of finding them jobs in the Middle East and Italy. 

 The CID has so far received 31 complaints against them from victims in Panadura, Bandarawela, Kurunegala, Galle, Matara and Mount Lavinia.

 Police spokesman SSP Maxi Proctor said the two suspects held under detention orders had been involved in the racket for a considerable period. (Supun Dias)
