The National Transport Commission has no right to take an unanimous decision on not to increase bus fares, Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owner's Association (LPBOA) Gemunu Wijeratne said.

Earlier the NTC had announced that bus fares would not be increased.

“We requested diesel subsidies, not a fare hike, but the government has refused to accept the proposals,” he said.

He also charged that NTC was pushing them for a strike action and said, “We would not hesitate to take any action against the Commission and to launch a strike action at any time.”

He said that, earlier decisions have been taken after discussions between the two parties. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
