The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) yesterday disassociated itself from the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between its main constituent Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the United National Party (UNP), a party leader said yesterday.

The the SLFP led UPFA is registered as a separate party political party with the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP), Sri Lanka Mahajana Party (SLMP), the Desa Vimukthi Janatha Party (DVJP), Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) and the National Unity Alliance (NUA) as its other constituents.

MEP Leader Dinesh Gunawardane told Daily Mirror the UPFA executive committee had not agreed to the signing of the MoU to form a national government for a period of two years.

He said he would request the UPFA to convene its executive committee as soon as possible to discuss these contentious matters.

“The UPFA executive committee has not approved the MoU even though 90 per cent of those elected on the UPFA ticket are members of the SLFP,” he said. (Kelum Bandara)
