Ambassador Tamara Kunanayakam has not yet accepted or rejected the offer by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to be transferred to Cuba, the Daily Mirror learns.

The MEA has requested an updated CV from Ms. Kunanayakam, and is currently awaiting her response.

“She has two options: to either accept or reject the offer made by the Ministry. It is up to her. But the Ministry will go ahead with the decisions already made; there will be no change to that,” an MEA source said.

In her letter dated May 1 addressed to External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, Ambassador Kunanayakam expressed displeasure at the move to transfer her to another “punishment station”, and outlined her reasons as to why she should continue to hold the post of Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva.
